It's not easy to qualify for public financing, so let's give the candidates who marched into the Ethics Commission after 4 p.m. today the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they were still collecting checks into the afternoon. ... Blowing the 5 p.m. deadline - and hopefully not their campaigns - were Anita Grier, Eugene Wong and Michael O'Connor (who'd removed the "non-profit donation" button from his Web site by 9 a.m. after a line in The Body Politic). A sweating Tys Sniffen made the list with two minutes to spare, as his campaign manager breezed in on his bike to turn in the final papers. ...
