More on D5: Full participation at forums is an enviable goal, but there is surely one abiding thought in the back of organizers' minds: how do we get a few neighborhood folks in if all 22 candidates bring along their obligatory 10-15 person cheering section? Packing forums with die-hard partisans is a time-honored San Francisco political tradition, and a key to campaign bragging rights ("My cheerleaders cheered harder than your cheerleaders."). Organizers might be able to break a forum/debate into three rounds with seven or eight candidates each, but how to you tell them, "You can bring along only three supporters."? Undecided voters at these forums? Maybe three, 22 tops. …
