Proponents of banning elephants at the S.F. Zoo want to see an interactive center instead, with Web cams and climate control, dedicated to teaching kids about the behemoths without exposing them to the rigors of confinement. Supervisor Matt Gonzalez, should a vote on the issue today fail, would like to see a signature drive to ban elephants unless voters subsequently affirmed a habitat plan designed by the zoo. …

    I honestly think the reason Matt Gonzalez is so uptight about the elephants being locked away in the zoo is that he fears he might end up in the same pen. I mean, have you seen Gonzalez lately? He's blown up like a balloon! He's huge!
