Jumbletron: Park(ing) Day, San Francisco

Originally uploaded by AdrielH
Parking(ing) Day is one of those, "Only in San Francisco," kind of holidays. Except it's celebrated worldwide :)
On the 17th of September, urban dwellers around the globe turn parking spaces into temporary parks. In San Francisco, what I really love is a recent move by the Department of Public Works to also turn unused street spaces into mini-parks.
Today, the Department of Environment had a small park set up for the holiday, complete with music and awnings to keep out a light drizzle. The group at the fore of this photo stopped in to hold an impromptu birthday celebration, and behind them you can see SF Environment public education and also a free compost giveaway.
Did you celebrate Park(ing) Day?
